An object moving at 36 km/h reduces its speed to 18 km/h in 2sec. If the mass of the object is 20 kg, find the average force acting on the object.

As in this Question we are required to find  the force . So , first of all we will find acceleration and the mass is already given .

speed v1 = 36 km/ hr = 10 m/s

v2 = 18km/hr = 5 m/s

Acceleration = (v2 - v1)/t = ( 5 - 10 )/2 = -2.5 m/s

force = mass X acceleration = 20 X -2.5 = -50 N

Here , negative sign indicates that the force is opposing the motion of the object .
