An object moving in a straight line covers half of the distance with speed 5 m/s. The other half of the distance is covered in two equal time intervals with speed of 4 m/s and 6 m/s respectively. The average speed of object during the motion is.​

consider total distance as x.

then,

x/2 is travelled with speed 5m/s

time = (x/2) /5

x/4 is travelled with speed 4m/s

time = (x/4)/ 4

the other x/4 is travelled with speed 6m/s

time = (x/4)/6

total time taken

= (x/2) /5 + (x/4)/ 4 + (x/4)/6

= x/10 + x/16 + x/24

= 49x/240

average speed=

total distance/total time

= x/(49x/240)

= 240/49 m/s
