The size of the image is 0.556 cm.

Explanation:

Given that,

Height of the object, h = 5 cm

Radius of curvature of the concave mirror, R = 40 cm

Focal length, f = -20 cm

Let the object is placed at a distance of 200 cm, u = -200 cm

To find,

Size of the image

Solution,

Let v is the distance of image from the mirror. Using mirror's formula to find it as :

\dfrac{1}{f}=\dfrac{1}{v}+\dfrac{1}{u}

\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{f}-\dfrac{1}{u}

\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{(-20)}-\dfrac{1}{(-200)}

v = -22.23 cm

The image is located at a distance of 22.23 cm.

Let h' is the size of image. It can be calculated using formula of magnification as :

m=\dfrac{-v}{u}=\dfrac{h'}{h}

\dfrac{-(-22.23)}{(-200)}=\dfrac{h'}{5}

h' = -0.556 cm

So, the size of the image is 0.556 cm.
