we know by conservation of energy change in kinetic energy is equal to change in pottential energy

so from the question we have a free fall which means initial kinetic energy and final pottential energies are equal to zero since initial velocity and final height is zero

therefore,

mgh =  \frac{1}{2} m(v)^{2}
