An object of mass 150 kg is to be lowered with the
help of a string whose breaking strength is 100 kg-wt.
What should be the minimum acceleration of the
body so that the string may not break-
(1) 2 m/s
(2) 4 m/s?
(3) 3.33 m/s2
(4) 4.5 m/s2

Answer:

(3) 3.33m/s^2

Explanation:

Given,

Mass of the object = 150 kg

breaking strength of string = 100 kg weight

breaking strength of string in newton,T = 100 x g

                                                               = 100 x 10 N

                                                               = 1000 N

Force on the object due to gravity, F = m.g

                                                          = 150 x 10 N

                                                           = 1500 N

At equilibrium the equation of force can be written as

F - T = ma

=> 1500 - 1000 = 150 x a

=> 150a = 500

=>\ a\ =\ \dfrac{500}{150}

         =\ 3.33\ m/s^2

So, the acceleration of the bosy should be 3.33\ m/s^2 so that string do not break.
