An object of mass 2 kg which was moving with a speed of 50m/s collides with another object of mass 5kg which was initially at rest. If after collision they stick with each other then find out their common velocity?

Explanation:

by the law of conservation of linear momemtum

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

after collision they stick together

so total mass=m1+m2=7kg

m1u1+m2u2= (m1+m2)(v1+v2)

m1u1+m2u2=7(v1+v2)

2×50+5×0=7(v1+v2)

100=7(v1+v2)

v1+v2=14.28m/s
