An object of mass 4 kg moving with velocity of 6 m/s along a straight line collides head on with another object of mass 2 kg which is at rest. If the collision is perfectly elastic what is the velocity of the first object after the collision?

Step-by-step explanation:

Linear momentum is conserved

0.4×4+0.4×2=0.8×v

as shown in figure and B.

v=

0.8

1.6+0.8

=3m/s

Kinetic energy before collision =

2

0.4(4)

0.4(2)

=3.2+0.8=4J

Kinetic after collision =

0.8(v)

=0.8×3

=3.6

Loss of kinetic energy =4−3.6=0.4J

Answer:

Linear momentum is conserved

0.4×4+0.4×2=0.8×v

as shown in figure and B.

v=0.81.6+0.8=3m/s

Kinetic energy before collision =210.4(4)2+210.4(2)2

=3.2+0.8=4J

Kinetic after collision =210.8(v)2=0.8×32=3.6

Loss of kinetic energy =4−3.6=0.4J
