An object of mass 40 kg is raised to a height of 5 m above the ground. What is its potential energy? If the object is allowed to fall, find its kinetic energy when it is half-way down.

ANSWER:-

PE = mgh = 40×9.8×5 = 1960 J

When it is half way down, h = 2.5 m

KE = 1/2 mv²

v² - u² = 2as

v² = 2as + u²

v² = 2×9.8×2.5 + 0²

v² = 49

KE = 1/2 × 40 × 49 = 20×49 = 980 J
