  • Mass , m = 40 kg

  • Height, h = 5 m

  • g = 9.8 \sf{ms}^{-2}

•• Potential energy = mgh

 \tt = 40 \times 9.8 \times 5 \\  \\  =  \tt \: 1960 \: J

When height becomes half, Potential energy gets halved --

 \tt =   \cancel\frac{1960}{2}  \\  \\  \tt = 980 \: J

Loss in kinetic energy = Gain in kinetic energy = 980 Joule.
