Density of water–»1gm/cm^3

Condition for floatation-

\boxed{\red{Density\:of\:object≤Density\:of\:fluid}}

density \: of \: block \: is \\  \frac{40}{80}  = 0.5
since,
density of block < density of water

That's why block will float.

Mass of substance(m) =40g
Volume of substance (v) =80cm
Density of substance (d) =m/v=40g/80cm
=0.5gcm
The substance will not sink in water, as it Dencity is (0.5)is less than the density of water (1gcm).
