Linear momentum is conserved 

0.4×4+0.4×2=0.8×v

v=0.81.6+0.8=3m/s

Kinetic energy before collision =210.4(4)2+210.4(2)2

=3.2+0.8=4J

Kinetic after collision =210.8(v)2=0.8×32=3.6

Loss of kinetic energy =4−3.6=0.4J
