an object of mass M moving with velocity V collide with an object of mass 3m at rest . if after collision first object bounces back with half it's initial velocity . find the velocity of 3m after collision

u1 = V & u2 = 0

v1 = -V/2 & v2 = v (let)

Applying principle of conservation of momentum we have :

m1u1+ m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2

MxV + 3mx0 = M(-V/2) + 3mxv

MV +MV/2 = 3mv

3MV/2 = 3mv

MV/2 = mv

so , v = MV/2m
