Given :

Size of object = 10cm

Distance of object = 6cm

Focal length of lens = 10cm

Type of lens : concave

To Find :

Position, nature and size of the image.

Solution :

❖ Focal length of concave lens is taken negative and that of convex lens is taken positive.

  • Distance of image can be calculated by using lens formula.

➙ 1/v - 1/u = 1/f

  • v denotes distance of image
  • u denotes distance of object
  • f denotes focal length

By substituting the given values;

➙ 1/v - 1/(-6) = 1/(-10)

➙ 1/v = -1/10 - 1/6

➙ 1/v = (-6 - 10) / 60

➙ 1/v = -16/60

➙ v = -60/16

v = -3.75 cm

Size of image :

➙ m = v/u = h'/h

  • h' denotes size of image
  • h denotes size of object

➙ (-3.75)/(-6) = h'/10

➙ h' = 0.625 × 10

h' = 6.25 cm

Nature of image :

  • Virtual
  • Erect
  • Small
