Hello there
The object rises to the maximum height of 125 m in 5 second.
Also at the highest point the velocity of the ball must be zero, because if it is not zero then it can't be the heighest point.
Now by third equation of motion
v²=u²+2as
Now taking upward direction as positive
v=0,a=-10m/s²,s=+125m
so
0²=u²-2×10×125
or,u²=2500
or,u=50.
The total displacement will be zero since the body comes back to the orginal position.
So total displacement=+125-125=0
but total distance=125+125=250m
Now we have to calculate the total time taken by the object in the journey.
By using second equation of motion,
s=ut+at²/2
where s=0 as total displacement is zero,
u=+50 as calculated
a=-10
so putting these values in the equation we get
0=50t-10t²/2
or,50t-5t²=0
or,t²-10t=0
or,t(t-10)=0
or,t=0,10
t=0 signifies that during the beginning of the journey also the net displacement was 0.t=10 is the time of completion of journey.
so now
Total displacement=0
Total distance=250m
Average velocity=Total displacement/total time
=0
Average speed=Total distance/total time
=250/10=25m/s
Hope it helps.
