Given :

  • An object starts from rest and accelerates at the rate of 2m/s2 in 4 s.

To Find :

  • What distance will it cover.

Solution :

  1. Intial Velocity (u) = 0 m s⁻¹ [because the object starts from rest]
  2. Acceleration (a) = 2 m s⁻²
  3. Time (t) = 4 s
  4. Distance (S) = ?

Using the second equation of motion, S = ut + ½ at²

  • S = ut + ½ at²
  • S = 0 × 4 + ½ × 2 × (4)²
  • S = 0 + ½ × 2 × 4 × 4
  • S = 0 + 4 × 4
  • S = 0 + 16
  • S = 16 m

Therefore :

  • The object will cover 16m at a rate of 2 m s⁻² in 4sec.
