Solution :-
As per the given question ,
- Initial velocity = 0.5 m /s
- Acceleration = - 2 m/s² ( as the velocity decreases at a constant rate deceleration takes place )
- Final velocity = 0 m /s ( comes to rest )
As the object moves with uniform acceleration throughout it's motion ,
we can use first equation of motion in order to find time
As per the first equation of motion ,
⇒ v = u + at
here ,
- v = final velocity
- u = initial velocity
- a = acceleration
- t = time taken
On rearranging
⇒ t = v - u / a
⇒ t = 0 - 0.5 / - 2
⇒ t = 5 / 20
⇒ t = 0.25 s
The object will take 0.25 s in order to come to rest
