Let the initial velocity be u.
Distance traveled=500m
Acceleration=-9.8m/s^2
we know,
v^2=u^2+2as
0=u^2+2as
u^2=-2as
u^2=-2*(-9.8)*500
u^2=9800
u=70√(2)
u=98.98 m/s
