Explanation:

Total distance covered S=15m+15m=30m

Total time t=5+3=8 s

Average speed V

How to solve?

Here, first we will find the total distance travelled by the object, then the total time taken to travel that distance. After that, by using the formula of calculating average speed we will find average speed of the object.

Average speed:

The ratio of the total distance travelled by the body to the total time taken by the body to cover the distance is called average speed.

Solution:

➨ Total distance covered by the object = ( 15 + 15 ) m

➨ Total distance covered by the object = 30 m

Now, finding total time

➨ Total time taken = ( 5 + 3 ) s

➨ Total time taken = 8 s

Now, by using formula for calculating average speed.

Average speed = Total distance travelled/Total time taken

Put the values in...

➨ Average speed = 30/8 m/s

➨ Average speed = 3.75 m/s

The average speed of the object = 3.75 m/s.

More:

  • The rate of change of motion is called speed or the distance covered by the moving body per unit time is called speed.

  • If a body covers equal distance in equal interval of time it is said to be moving with uniform speed.

  • If a body covers unequal distance in equal interval of time it is said to be moving with variable speed.
