The speed of a body is not usually constant . Therefore, the rate of motion is described in terms of average speed .The average speed can be calculated by the formula

\green{\boxed{av.\;speed=\frac{total\;distance}{total\;time\;taken}}}

Total distance covered = 16m +16m = 32 m

Total Time taken = 4 sec + 2 sec = 6 sec

average \: speed =\frac{total \: distance \: covered \: }{total \: time \: taken}

av. \: \: speed \:  =  \frac{32}{6}  = 5.33 \: m \: per \: sec
