An object travels 40m in 5 sec and then another 80m in 5 sec. What is the average speed of the object? *

Answer:

12m/sec

Explanation:

Speed = Distance  ÷ Time

40 ÷ 5 = 8

80 ÷ 5 = 16

Average Speed = (8+16) ÷ 2

                          =  24  ÷  2

                          = 12

Distance1= 40m

Distance2= 80m

Time1= 5sec

Time2= 5sec

Total average speed= Total speed/ Total time

= 40m + 80m/ 5sec+ 5sec

=120m/ 10sec

= 12m/s
