total distance travelled= 40km+40km=80km.

Total time taken to travel total distance =

t=(S1/distance1 +S2/ distance2)hour = 1/2+1=3/2 hour

average speed= total distance travelled/ total time taken=80/3/2km/h

=80×2/3km/h

=160/3km/h

53.33km/h
