let the distance from the observer to the first tank be 'x' m.

then the distance from the observer to the second tank will be (x+510)m

1st equation:

s = d/t      {s = speed of sound, d=distance, t= time}

s = x/2   (t = 2sec)

x = 2s ----------------> equation 1

2nd equation:

s = d/t

s = (x+510)/(3.5)  ----------------> equation 2

substitute equation 1 in equation 2

we get

s = (2s + 510)/(3.5)                      {x = 2s}

3.5s = 2s+ 510

1.5 s = 510

3/2 s = 510

s = 510x 2 /3

s = 340 m/s

Answer:

Explanation:

T1=2sec

T2=3.5sec

Original time=3.5–2=1.5

Distance=510m

S=5100/15=340ms^-1
