Height of the observer, DE=1.5 m

Height of the chimney, BC=AC+1.5 m

Distance of the observer from the foot of the chimney, BE=28.5 m

Angle of elevation from the eyes of the observer to the top of the chimney =45

AD=BE=28.5 m

Therefore,

tan45

=

AD

AC

28.5

AC

=1

AC=28.5 m

Therefore,

Height of the chimney, AB=28.5+1.5=30 m

Hence, the height of the chimney is 30 m.
