When we cross octoploid (8n) male with diploid female (2n), the gamete formed is 4n and n, therefore zygote will be 5n. Endosperm is formed by the process of triploid fusion, wherein one male gamete fuses with two polar nuclei. In this case, two polar nuclei are haploid but male gamete is tetraploid (4n).
