From question

x+x²=182

x+x²-182=0

x²+x-182=0

x²+14x-13x-182=0

x(x+14)-13(x+14)=0

(x+14)(x-13)=0

So x is either -14 or 13.

-14 is not possible due to the given criterion of the question

So the number is 13.
