Given that, an odometer of a car reads 2000 km at the start of a rip and 2400 km at end the end of trip.

Means, initial distance = 2000 km and Final distance = 2400 km

Also given that, the trip takes 8 hours. So, total time taken to cover the trip is 8 hours.

We have to find the average speed of the car in km/hr and m/s.

Now,

(a) Total distance covered by car = Final distance - Initial distance

= (2400 - 2000) km

= 400 km

Time = 8 hours

So,

Average speed = (Total distance covered)/(Total time taken)

= 400/8

= 50 km/hr

Therefore, the average speed of the car in km/hr is 50 km/hr.

(b) In second part, we have to find the average speed of the car in m/s.

From above calculations we have average speed = 50 km/hr. To convert km/hr into m/s, multiply with 5/18.

So,

Average speed = 50 × 5/18

= 13.89 m/s

Therefore, average speed of the car in m/s is 13.89 m/s.

Explanation:

It is given that the total distance travelled by the car is 2400 km-2000 km = 400 km, that is, 400000 m and the total time taken =8 hours, that is, 8×60×60=28800seconds..

Average speed in km/hr = total distance/total time = 400/8 = 50 km/hr.

Average speed in m/s = total distance/total time = 400000/28800 = 13.89
