An oil funnel made of tin sheet consists of a 10 cm long cylindrical portion attached to a frustum of a cone. If the height is 22 cm, diameter of the cylindrical portion is 8 cm and the diameter of the top of the Funnel is 18 cm, find the area of the tin sheet required to make the funnel.

Answer:

1173.17cms

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to find the surface area of the cylindrical section and frustrum section and add them. Since it is an oil funnel,it is open at both ends.

cylinder:

height,h=10cm

diameter,d=8cm, radius,r=d/2=4cm

surface area(only lateral)=2πrh=2*π*4*10=80πcms=80*22/7=251.43cms

frustrum:

height,h=22cms

smaller diameter,d=8cm,Smaller radii=d/2=4cm

larger diameter,D=18cm,Larger radii=D/2=9cm

surface area(curved)=π(R+r)l1=π(R+r)√((R-r)²+h²)=921.74cms

total surface area=251.43+921.74=1173.17cms
