an old man and a young man are working together in an office and staying together in a near by apartment. the old man takes 30 minutes and the young 20 minutes to walk from apartment to office. if one day the old man started at 10:00am and the young man at 10:05am from the apartment to office, when will they meet?

Old man will meet with young man at half of 30=15min

young man meet with old man aat half of 20=10 mint

then

according to young 10:05+10= 10:15am

according to old 10:00+15=10:15am

so they will meet each other at 10:15 am

So, Distance covered in 5 minutes = 1/30 × 5 = 1/6

Now, Old man have to cover 5/6 of the way and young man to cover complete way.

let t be the time when taken by both to meet.

According tot the question,

1-\frac{1}{20}t=\frac{5}{6}-\frac{1}{30}t

1- t/20 = 5/6 - t/30

1 -5/6 = t/20 - t/30

1/6 =  10t/600

t = 600/60

t = 10

So, they'll meet 10 minutes after the young man starts his journey, i.e at 10:15 am.

Therefore, They will meet at 10:15 AM.
