An old man on his dying bed called up his three sons. And asked them to bring few sticks with them. Each one of them had bought sticks in some time. The old man made a bundle out of those sticks and then told them to try and break the bundle.

The sons, despite several attempts, could not succeed in breaking the bundle of sticks. Now, the father untied the bundle and this time gave separate sticks to them and again asked to break it.

And, the brothers succeeded this time in their attempt to break sticks. The old man explained to his sons that if you stand united, nobody can harm you. But if you keep quarreling among themselves, anybody can defeat you.
