Given data :

  • An open cylindrical bottle has a base area equal to 154 cm².

  • Length of open cylindrical bottle is 30 cm.

To find : Total surface area of open cylindrical bottle.

Solution : According to given,

→ Area of base of bottle = 154 cm² .....( 1 )

Let, shape of base cylindrical bottle be circular. Hence, here we use formula of area of circle.

→ π * r² = 154

→ 22/7 * r² = 154

→ 22 * r² = 154 * 7

→ 22 * r² = 1078

→ r² = 1078/22

→ r² = 49

→ r = √49

→ r = 7 cm

Let, the length of cylindrical bottle be height. Now,

→ curved surface area of cylindrical bottle

= 2 * π * r * h

→ curved surface area of cylindrical bottle

= 2 * 22/7 * 7 * 30

→ curved surface area of cylindrical bottle

= 2 * 22 * 30

→ curved surface area of cylindrical bottle

= 44 * 30

→ curved surface area of cylindrical bottle

= 1320 cm² .......( 2 )

Now, to find total surface area of open cylindrical bottle. We need to add curved surface area of cylindrical bottle and area of base of bottle.

Now, from eq. ( 1 ) & eq. ( 2 )

→ Total surface area of bottle

= 1320 + 154

→ Total surface area of bottle

= 1474 cm²

ANSWER : Hence, Total surface area of open cylindrical bottle is 1474 cm².
