An open organ pipe has a fundamental frequency of 300 H_(Z) . The first overtone of a closed organ pipe has the same frequency as the first overtone of this open pipe . How long is each pipe ? (Speed of sound in air = 330 m//s)

In an open pipe frequency = v/2l,

Frequency= n

Therefore, l= v/2n

= 330/2*300

= 11/20

As frequency of 1st overtone of open pipe = frequency of first overtone of closed pipe.

So, 2*v/2l = 3v/4l'

l' = 3l/4

l' = 3/4*11/20

l' = 0.4125 CM

Therefore, open pipe is of 55 CM and closed pipe is of 41.25 CM.
