Given :-

Length of the rectangular tank = 16 cm

Breadth of the rectangular tank = 9 cm

Height of the rectangular tank = 8 cm

To Find :-

The surface area at the tank that is in contact with the water.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • b = Base
  • l = Length
  • h = Height

Given that,

Length (l) = 16 cm

Breadth (b) = 9 cm

Height (h) = 8 cm

According to the question,

Here we have to find the lateral surface area of the cuboid + the base area

The lateral surface area of the cuboid is given by

\underline{\boxed{\sf LSA = 2h (l + b) }}

The base area is given by

\underline{\boxed{\sf Base \ area=Length \times Breadth}}

Hence,

Surface that is in contact = \sf 2h ( l + b) + l \times b

Substituting their values,

Surface in contact = \sf 2 \times 8 (16 + 9) + 16 \times 9

Surface in contact = \sf 16 \times 25 + 144

Surface area in contact = \sf 400 + 144

Surface area in contact = \sf 544 \ cm^{2}

Therefore, the surface area of the tank that is in contact with the water is 544 cm²
