An open rectangular tank of length 32 cm and breadth 28 cm contains water to a depth of 19 cm. 2580 circular metal discs of diameter 23mm and height 4 mm are dropped into the tank. find ;
i). the new height of water in the tank,

ii). the surface area of the tank that is in contact with the water after the discs have been added.

Volume of tank with water= l*b*h

                                             = 32 * 28 * 19

                                             = 17024 cm^3

Volume of each circular disc( note that disc are of cylinderical shape)

                                                = pie*r^2*h

                                                = pie * 1.15^2 * 0.4    (note that i converted mm into cm)

                                                = 1.66 cm^3

Volume of 2580 circular disc= 1.66 * 2580

                                                  = 4282.8 cm^3

Total Volume= 4282.8+17024

                      = 21306.8 cm^3

Height(cm)                               Volume(cm^3)

19                                              17024

x                                                 21306.8

x=(19 * 21306.8)/17024

Height=23.7 cm
