In the chapter Villa for sale Gaston is represented as a clever and manipulative person, who is extremely interested in making a profit. He was not interested in how Juliette was struggling to sell the house, he was initially quite critical of the house. But, when he got an opportunity to make a profit by cheating the owner of the villa, he immediately grabbed the chance. His wife who was very keen to buy the villa was also not aware of Gaston’s real intentions. Gaston had sold the villa to someone else while Juliette was showing the rest of the villa to his wife. This proves that Gaston was an opportunist and knew how to make a good profit.
