Compound A is Ethyl Alcohol or Ethanol

Explanation:

  • The organic compound which is a constituent of wine and beer is Ethyl alcohol C_2H_5OH.

When Ethyl alcohol treated with alkaline KMnO_4 it produces Ethanoic acid (Acetic acid-CH_3COOH), this acetic acid turns blue litmus to red.

C_2H_5OH+ alkaline.KMnO_4CH_3COOH

Therefore A =  C_2H_5OH

B = CH_3COOH
