An organic compound A on heating with concentrated H2SO4 forms a compound B which on addition of addition of 1 mole of hydrogen in presence of Ni forms a compound C. One mole of the compound C on combustion forms 2moles of CO2 and 3 moles of H2O. Identify A, B and C and write the chemical reactions involved.

Since 1 mole of C on combustion gives 2 moles of CO2 and 1 mole of H2O,
=>C-ethane
=>Ethane is formed on hydrogenation of B.
=>B is alkene whis has 2 carbon atoms.
=>B-ethene
We know that dehydration of ethanol (C2H5OH) can give us 2 types of products- diethyl ether and ethene.
=>A-ethanol.
