An organic compound A reacts with metal ( belongs to 1 group) to form sodium ethoxide and a gas B..Identify A and B?

First of all we know that the formula of sodium ethoxide is;

C2H5ONa

So the organic compound must have been C2H5OH

now we know Na is attached to Sod.Ethoxide
so metal used must be Na

The gas evolved will be H2 (diHydrogen) because hydrogen is displaced

so; Req eqn will be;

2C2H5OH + 2Na --> 2C2H5ONa + H2
