Answer : If an organic compound burns with a sooty flame, it is unsaturated.
Explanation :
We know that in sooty flame the black carbon particles which are not completely burned are formed and as a result it burns with the yellow flame due to the incomplete combustion. In non sooty flame there are no black particles formed and it burns with clean or clear blue flame.
In generally, the saturated carbons give blue clear flame and unsaturated carbons give yellow sooty flame.
Hence, If an organic compound burns with a sooty flame, it is unsaturated.
