carbon

10.15/12=0.84

Hydrogen

0.84/1=0.84

chlorine

88.98/35.5=2.50

Simple ratio

carbon

0.84/0.84=1

Hydrogen

0.84/0.84=1

chlorine

2.5/0.84=2.97=3

empirical formula

CHCl3

Empirical mass = 119.5g=120g

molar mass = 120 g

As per the formula,

molar mass = n × empirical mass

n = 120/120 =1

empirical mass = molar mass

empirical formula = molecular formula

molecular formula = CHCl3
