1 ) = Identify the organic compound ?

■ The organic compound is \textbf{ethanoic acid} [ CH3COOH ] , also known as \textbf{acetic acid}.

2 ) = Write the chemical equation for the above reaction ?

■ Chemical equation :-

CH3COOH + NaHCO3 => CH3COONa + H2O + CO2.

can be written as ,

When \textbf{Ethanoic acid} react \textbf{Sodium bicarbonate} gives us \textbf{Sodium acetate} , Water and \textbf{carbon dioxide}

3 ) = Name the gas evolved ?

■ When reaction occurs \textbf{Carbon dioxide} gas evolved ; as shown in above reaction.

4 ) = How will you test the gas evolved ?

■ When the gas passes over \textbf{lime water} , if it turns \textbf{milky} then the gas will be Carbon dioxide otherwise not.

Hence , presence of carbon dioxide can be tested by \textbf{Lime water test}.

5 ) = List two important uses of above compound ?

■ Ethanoic acid is used for making \textbf{vinegar}

■ It is also used in the preparation of \textbf{medicines and perfumes}.

1 - Ethanoic acid

2 - CH3COOH + NaHCo3 = CH3COONa + Co2 + H2o

3 - carbon dioxide

4 - It turns milky , when lime water passes through it.

5 - Used in medicine.
