since it gives a pleasent smell therefore last rxn is that of estrification which involves alcohol and acid........

the given comp cannot be an acid since it has single O

therfore it is an alcohol with formula CH3CH2OH(X)

on oxidation alcoholconverts into acid implies

Yis acetic acid CH3COOH

X - Ethanol - CH3CH2OH
Y - Ethanoic acid - CH3COOH
X + Y -> Z
CH3CH2OH + CH3COOH ---> CH3COOC2H5 + H20 (in presence of con. H2SO4)
