Given : An oscillator has a time period of 3 sec.
Its amplitude decreases by 5% each cycle.
To Find : energy decreases in each cycle
Solution:
As energy is directly proportional to amplitude
E ∝ A²
E = kA²
amplitude decreases by 5%
=> A' = A - (5/100)A = 0.95A
E' = k(A')²
E' = k ( 0.95A)²
=> E' = k0.9025A²
=> E' = 0.9025E
Energy Decrease = E - E' = E - 0.9025E = 0.0975E
% energy decreases in each cycle = ( 0.0975E / E) * 100
= 9.75 %
9.75 % energy decreases in each cycle
