Given:-

→ Velocity of the ostrich = 144 kmph

→ Velocity of the Leopard = 108 kmph

→ Time taken by the Ostrich = 2 s

→ Time taken by the Leopard = 3 s

To find:-

→ Ratio of their accelerations.

Solution:-

Firstly, let's convert the velocities of the Ostrich and Leopard from kmph to m/s.

⇒ 1 kmph = 5/18 m/s

⇒ 144 kmph = 144×5/18

⇒ 40 m/s [Ostrich]

⇒ 108 kmph = 108×5/18

⇒ 30 m/s [Leopard]

________________________________

Since the Ostrich and the Leopard acquires a given speed, so they were initially at rest. Thus, their initial velocities (u) will be zero.

Acceleration of the Ostrich :-

⇒ a = v - u/t

⇒ a = 40 - 0/2

⇒ a = 40/2

⇒ a = 20 m/s²

Acceleration of the Leopard :-

⇒ a = v - u/t

⇒ a = 30 - 0/3

⇒ a = 30/3

⇒ a = 10 m/s²

________________________________

Now, ratio of their accelerations :-

= 20 m/s² : 10 m/s²

= 20 m/s²/10 m/s²

= 2/1

= 2 : 1

Thus, required ratio is 2 : 1 [Option.a]

Answer:

Given :-

  • An Ostrich can acquire a velocity of 144 kmph in 2 s while a leopard can acquire a velocity of 108 kmph in 3 s.

To Find :-

  • What is the ratio of their accelerations.

Formula Used :-

a = (v - u)/t

where,

  • a = Acceleration
  • v = Final velocity
  • u = Initial velocity

Solution :-

In case of Ostrich :

  • Final Velocity = 144 kmph
  • Time = 2 seconds

In case of Leopard :

  • Final Velocity = 108 kmph
  • Time = 3 seconds

First, we have to convert kmph into m/s :

For Ostrich :

144 kmph = 144 × 5/18 =

40 m/s

In case of Leopard :

108 kmph = 108 × 5/18

30 m/s

Now, we have to find the acceleration :

Given :

  • Final Velocity = 40 m/s
  • Time = 2 seconds
  • Initial Velocity = 0 m/s

In case of Ostrich :

a = 40 - 0/2

a = 40/2

a = 20 m/

In case of Leopard :

Given :

  • Final Velocity = 30 m/s
  • Time = 3 seconds
  • Initial Velocity = 0 m/s

a = 30 - 0/3

a = 30/3

a = 10 m/

So, their ratio of acceleration will be :

Acceleration of Ostrich /Acceleration of Leopard

20/10

2/1

2 : 1

The ratio of their accelerations of Ostrich and Leopard is 2 : 1.

Hence, the correct options is option no (a) 2 : 1 .
