In the given otto cycle, to calculate the mean effective pressure:

Given Data:

  • Net Work(W_{net}) = 418.17 KJ/Kg.
  • Compression ratio(r) = 8.
  • Initial pressure(P_{i})= 100 kPa.
  • Initial Temperature(T_{i}) = 290 K.

Soln:

  • initial volume(v_{1}) which is equal to the maximum volume is given by

                              v_{1}=v_{max}= R*T_{i} /P_{i}\\v_{1}= 0.2879*290/100\\v_{1}=0.834  m^3 /Kg\\

  • compression ratio(r) is given as

                              r = v_{max}/v_{min}\\r = v_{1}/v_{2}\\v_{2}=v_{1}/r\\v_{2}=0.8329/8\\v_{2}=0.1043  m^3/Kg

  • Mean effective pressure is given by:

                              M.E.P=W_{net}/(v_{1}-v_{2})\\M.E.P = 418.17/(.834-0.1043)\\M.E.P = 573.0711 kPa

Therefore the Mean effective power is 573.071 kPa
