Answer:

Given :- The oval-shaped ground has a 2m wide lawn around it. If the length and breadth of the ground is 21m and 7m, respectively, find the area of the lawn ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, ABCD be the oval - shaped ground with length and breadth as 21m and 7m .

So,

→ Length = AB = 21m

→ Breadth = CB = 7m .

then,

→ Area of ground ABCD = length * breadth = 21 * 7 = 147m².

Now, the ground has a 2m wide lawn around it.

So,

→ Length = PQ = 21 + 2(width of lawn) = 21 + 2 * 2 = 21 + 4 = 25 m .

and,

→ Breadth = PS = 7 + 2 * 2 = 7 + 4 = 11 m .

then,

→ Area of PQRS = L * B = 25 * 11 = 275m².

therefore,

→ Area of Lawn = Area of PQRS - Area ot ABCD = 275 - 147 = 128 m². (Ans.)
