An overhead wire carries current from east to west. The direction of the magnetic field 5cm below the wire will be toward south.


Here the formula is North → South. Using Maxwell's right-hand corkscrew rule. This is a conventional formula which was criticized by the left hand people.


But still, in physics, it has been proved that clockwise and any-clockwise formula is depends on the Maxwell's right-hand corkscrew rule.
