An oxide of nitrogen is found to contain nitrogen and
oxygen combined together in the ratio of 7:16 by mass.
Derive the formula of the oxide and name it.​

Mass of nitrogen = 14 u

mass of oxygen = 16 u

O2 = 16 × 2 = 32 u

here combine ratio of nitrogen and oxygen is 7:16

nitrogen : oxygen = 14:32 = 7:16

here nitrogen is one atom = N

oxygen is two atoms = O2

The formula of oxide = NO2 = Nitrogen oxide
