An oxide of sulphur contains 50% of sulphur in it.
Its emperial formula is -
(1) SO, (2) S03 (3) SO (4) S,0​

First, divide each mass percentage by its atomic mass.

S= 50/32= 1.5625

O= 50/16= 3.125

Now, divide them by the smaller value:-

1.5625/1.5625= 1

3.125/1.5625= 2

Thus, the empirical formula is SO2.
