Given :-

An umbrella is made by stitching 10 triangular pieces of cloth of two different colours each pieces measuring 20 cm, 50 cm, and 50 cm.

To Find :-

How much cloth of each colour is required for the umbrella.

Solution :-

Given that, there are 10 triangular pieces of 2 different colours. So 5 pieces for each colour.

Also, The two sides of each triangle is equal so the triangle is isosceles.

Lets us find the height of the triangle. We know, the perpendicular will be the height of the triangle which also bisects the base.

Using Pythagoras theorem,

⇒ Hypotenuse² = (Base / 2)² + (Perpendicular)²

⇒ (50)² = (10)² + Perpendicular²

⇒ 2500 - 100 = Height²

Height = 48.98 cm

Now, Let's find the area of the cloth of each colour,

⇒ 5 × Area of triangle

⇒ 5 × 1/2 × 20 × 48.98

⇒ 100 × 48.98 / 2

⇒ 4898/2

2449 cm²

Hence, 2449 cm² of cloth of each colour is required.
