An unexpected joke may tickle your funny bone more than a
planned one. One party game that relies on unexpected jokes has
people fill in blanks in a short story without knowing the story. Each
blank is labeled with the category of word that belongs there: noun,
verb, adjective, etc. After filling in the blanks, someone reads the
story aloud, often trying hard not to laugh!
The same process can be duplicated at random from a list of words
that fit each word category. A random-outcome generator
selects a word at random from
a given list. Random-outcome
generators can be a physical
manipulative (such as a
number cube or spinner)
or technological programs
that select an outcome.
Write at least one sentence with two blanks that could be used in the
type of story described above. What category of word belongs in each
blank? Make a list of 12 possible words for each of the blanks. The
outcome of picking each word from a list should not be equally likely.
Use a random-outcome generator to choose a word for each blank. You
can either use an existing random-outcome generator or make your
own. Do this again at least three more times. Use what you learned in
this topic to describe the probability that each of the words would be
chosen. Submit your funny sentences as well as your probability analysis
